This is a letter to everyone who has ever received a Thompson Ferrier package.

You may have noticed it takes a moment to get to the candle. That is not an accident. In a world where most packages are designed to get out of the way as quickly as possible, tear here, lift tab, done, we made a different decision. We decided that the experience of receiving one of our pieces should feel like something; because it is.

When one of my package arrives, you begin with the outer box. Then comes the paper, wrapped around what's inside with the kind of care you notice immediately. Then the sleeve. Then the box that holds the candle itself. And finally, packed tightly and securely in foam, the piece you ordered. Each layer exists for a reason. Yes, most of our vessels are ceramic and glass, and protecting them in transit matters deeply to us. But if safety were the only consideration, we could have stopped at one layer of bubble wrap and called it a day.

I didn't.

We layered it because we wanted to slow you down. The candle you ordered is not just a candle to you or to us. It is an art piece, designed by hand, fragranced by a perfumer, and made to live in your home as a considered object. Something like that deserves a reveal. It deserves the few extra seconds it takes to unwrap it, to lift it out, to hold it before you even think about lighting it. That pause is part of the experience we designed for you.

The term luxury is not only what you own. It is how it makes you feel the moment it arrives. We think about that moment just as carefully as we think about the fragrance inside the vessel and the design of the vessel itself. From the first layer of packaging to the last, everything you encounter before the candle is our way of telling you, before you ever strike a match, that what is inside was worth the wait.

Take your time with it. That is exactly what we intended.
